Struggle For Palestine

Despite its quite friendly relationship with the US, Israel is facing American criticism when the president Barrack Obama announced that the borders between the two countries as established in 1969 should be restored. This generated the view that the two countries should face some serious peace talks and should reconsider their positions on the current point and what should be done for the establishment of a peaceful region.

The president’s speech comes as if from nowhere. Never have been such words spoken that would undermine the authority of Israel in the Middle East. However, the recent political moves in the area forced several leaders from both Europe and America to carefully estimate the impact on their relationships with countries from the area. Probably the same intention has been present when Barrack Obama made the statement. He needed no roller banners in order to promote his message as the world media went crazy in seconds. The proposed border restoration by Obama means strong and continuous political debate on the issue.

The problems that the Middle East is facing are the most likely reasons to force the US president to make such a point. In order to strengthen his positions and relationships with the newly formed political regimes in the region, the US needs to consider how to attract the attention of those concerned. It is no surprise that the newly formed institutions in the countries that went trough the process of revolution would aim to influence the Arab world. Thus the US needs to either support or completely ignore one of the most neglected territories in the area - Palestine.
