Gay Marriage
As someone who stands in the lefty corner I can fully support the call for gay marriage and for those couples who wish to marry to be allowed to do it where they want to. Those that oppose gay marriage are discriminating against the LGBT community and in doing so are denying them their human rights. LGBT rights are protected under the humans rights act, although many that oppose the LGBT community do not respect or recognise their human rights.

What is more worrying is that there are still over 70 countries around the world where homosexuality remains a criminal offence. Some say that it is a life choice, like choosing to have short hair or getting tattoo, but this is not the case. People can no more control which sex they are attracted to than they can control the colour of their eyes or how tall they grow. It is something that is pre-determined prior to birth and therefore not a life choice, but a life fact. And it can happen to anyone, from gardeners to family solicitors.
Thankfully the government is looking to tackle this with the proposed changes to the law, hopefully to be in force by 2015. However, there is still major opposition in House of Lords and other official entities. It seems that it does not matter how hard we strive for equality for all that there will always be someone standing there saying it is wrong, evil or against nature.

But for those of you who can see that preventing same-sex marriage is unethical, I urge you to support the cause and help the LGBT community achieve something it should have had from the start, not something it has had to and still is working fiercely to secure. Being allowed to marry the one you love should be considered a human right, not one exclusive to opposite sex couples.
